With only two games left in conference play, the Fordham men's soccer team knew that getting a result on Sunday at Dayton was crucial to the team's hopes of making the Atlantic 10 playoffs in two weeks. The Rams got just that as
Jannik Loebe and
Ollie Kelly both scored in the second half to defeat the Dayton Flyers, 2-1, at Baujan Field in Dayton, Ohio.
With the win, Fordham improved to 6-8-2 on the year, 3-3-1 in the Atlantic 10, while Dayton fell to 6-5-5 on the season, 2-2-2 in league play.
After a scoreless first half, it only took 38 seconds for Fordham to get on the board in the second half.
Aleksandar Mastilovic started a fast break for the Rams, passing the ball to
Jannik Loebe in the box for the finish inside the near post for his second goal of the season.
Dayton then tied the game in 63rd minute, as Amass Amankona found James Haupt in the box for a goal to the near post, his fifth of the season.
Just eight minutes later, the Rams regained the lead at 2-1, as
Ollie Kelly scored his first goal of the season to the near post off an assist by
Ryan Walsh. Walsh then came up big on the defensive end just one minute later, as he posted a defender save on Dayton's Lalas Abubakar to keep Fordham in the lead.
Dayton had four corner kicks and three shot attempts after the defender save, but the Fordham defense held strong to finish out the 2-1 win.
The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Friday, Novmeber 7th, when the Rams host the Duquesne Dukes at 7:00 PM on Jack Coffey Field for the regular season finale.
