Photo GalleryUMass' Mark Morris and Matt Mooney each netted goals in the first 20 minutes of action on Sunday, as the Minutemen posted a 2-0 win over the Fordham Rams at Jack Coffey Field.
With the loss, Fordham falls to 5-8-2 overall, 2-3-1 in the Atlantic 10, while UMass improved to 2-12-1 on the year, 1-4-1 in the league.
The Minutemen didn't take long to get on the scoreboard, as in the 7
th minute, Josh Schwartz's through ball got one-touched into the net by Mark Morris from ten yards out for his third goal of the season.
UMass extended the lead to 2-0 in the 20th minute. After a failed clear on a corner kick, Will Ellis headed the ball up in the air toward the top of the box. Matt Mooney then connected on the one-timer, glancing off the left post and in for his first of the year.
Fordham desperately put everything toward goal in the final 70 minutes, but none got past Taylor Culp, who posted seven saves in the shutout.
The Rams were forced to split time in goal, as starter
Sean Brailey was knocked out of the game after a collision with UMass' Matt Keys. He finished with three saves in the game, while freshman netminder
Jordan Black had two saves in relief.
The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Sunday, November 2
nd, when the team travels to Dayton for a 2:30 PM game.
