UMass Game Notes
The winners of a program record 11 consecutive games, the Rams look to pick up their 12
th when they travel to UMass on Sunday for their A-10 road opener at 2 PM.
SERIES HISTORY: Sunday afternoon will mark the 34
th all-time meeting between the Rams and the Minutewomen, with the series history dating as far back as February of 1980. A majority of the matchups, however, have come as Atlantic 10 opponents.
The series history between the two squads has a lot to do with location. Inside the friendly confines of the Rose Hill Gym, the Rams hold a winning record (9-8) against UMass, but when the games are played in Amherst, it has been decidedly one-sided in favor of the Minutewomen. UMass is 13-3 all-time against Fordham at home, although the Rams did win their last game in the Mullins Center during Coach Gaitley's first year.
SCOUTING UMASS: UMass has been struggling immensely in 2013-14, heading into Sunday's A-10 home opener with a 3-12 (0-1) record. Most recently, the Minutewomen suffered a huge loss at the hands of VCU, falling to the Rams 112-54 in Richmond, the second time this season that UMass has let an opponent crack the century mark.
The Minutewomen's greatest difficulty has been keeping opponents off the scoreboard, allowing 79 points per outing (326
th nationally) and a 44.3 opposing field goal percentage (315
th nationally).
The Minutewomen have two players averaging over ten points per game, led by Kim Pierre-Louis at 11.9 per outing. The junior forward from Ottawa, Ontario, is also the team's second leading rebounder, pulling down 5.6 per game. Junior Emily Mital is the other UMass scorer averaging double figures, pouring in 10.6 points per contest.
