Rowing Places Eighth at Atlantic 10 Championships

The Fordham University rowing squad competed in the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championship on the Cooper River where the Rams placed eighth.

Rhode Island won its second straight Atlantic 10 Rowing Championship, scoring 49 total team points at the regatta, while Massachusetts finished second with 45 points and George Washington was third with 44 points. Following the Colonials were Duquesne (32), Temple (31), Dayton (30), Saint Joseph's (18), Fordham (12) and La Salle (9).

Fordham was led by its second varsity 8 and varsity 4 boats, each winning the petite final.

The second varsity 8 placed fourth in its heat, ahead of La Salle but behind Rhode Island, Temple and Dayton. The Rams then came back to win the petite final in 7:43.13, almost ten seconds ahead of runner-up Saint Joseph's and well ahead of La Salle. The second varsity 8 was made up of Jenny Looby, Tecla Di Francesco, Sossi Megan, Maggie Familetti, Jillian Stackman, MariaLuisa Capuano, Courtney Cambria and Jenn Amoroso with Alexandra Anello at coxswain.

The varsity 4 also placed fourth in its heat, trailing Rhode Island, George Washington and Temple, and then won the petite final, crossing the line almost ten seconds in front of Saint Joseph's. The varsity 4 was comprised of Erin Snow, Sarah Tully, Alexandra Leen and Megan Sullivan with Megan Feerick at coxswain.

The Fordham varsity 8 placed fourth in its heat, ahead of La Salle but behind Rhode Island, UMass and Saint Joseph's. The boat then placed third in the petite final, just being edged out at the line by La Salle, finishing just over a second behind the Explorers. The Fordham varsity 8 was comprised of Jessica LaJoie, Alexandra McDonald, Maureen White, Elizabeth Helmer, Nicole Arrato, Ashley Hawkesworth, Ashleigh Aitchison, and Katelyn Lakes with Rachel Sortino at coxswain.

The novice 8 took fifth in the finals, behind Duquesne, Temple, Rhode Island and La Salle. The Fordham novice 8 was made up of Sarah Champlin, Kate Malcolm, Wendy Amidon, Maureen McGinn, Elan Saynay, Rachel Wilwerding, Maia Castillo and Anne Hayes.

In the varsity 4 B final the Rams placed sixth, just behind Temple. The varsity 4 B boat was comprised of Sarah Gonsier, Jenna Kocsis, Allie Fitzmorris and Maureen Paparo with Rachel Wilwerding at coxswain.

The Rams return to action on Friday, May 10, as they compete at the Dad Vail Championship on the Schuylkill River, Philadelphia.
