Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham University women's tennis team entered today's match with Xavier University riding a four-game winning streak but the Musketeers halted the Rams streak with a 4-3 win on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts.

Fordham opened the match winning the doubles point, taking two of three doubles matches. Amy Simidian and Sarah Ali took first doubles from Katie Pleiman and Kelly Alkire, 8-2, while Bella Genkina and Anika Novacek were victorious at second doubles over Daniella Patton and Allyson Westling, 8-1.

Unfortunately the Rams couldn't take that momentum into singles play as Fordham dropped the first four singles matches that were completed before picking up wins at fifth and sixth singles. Novacek took fifth singles from Natalie Lawless, winning the first set, 6-3, before dropping the second, 6-2. Novacek came back to win the third set, 6-1, to take the match.

Minutes after Novacek' match ended, Julie Leong finished her win over Andrea Wolf at the sixth position. Leong dropped the first set to Wolf, 7-5, but roared back to win the second and third by identical 6-3 scores.

The Rams return to action on Sunday, April 7, as they host the University of Rhode Island on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts at 10:00 a.m.
