Women's Tennis Blanks Marist, 7-0

Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham University women's tennis team continued its winning ways on Wednesday, shutting out Marist College, 7-0, on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts for the Rams' fourth straight win of the spring.

Fordham opened the match by taking the doubles point, winning all three doubles matches. Amy Simidian and Sarah Ali defeated Karly Pang and Joana Sun at first doubles, 8-5, while Bella Genkina and Anika Novacek teamed up to take second doubles from Kelsey Raynor and Sabrina Tahir and Angelika Dabu and Julie Leong won at third doubles over Melissa Carlay and Kaye Eastman by identical 8-0 scores.

In singles play, Leong got the Rams started with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Eastman at fifth singles and Novacek followed with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Carlay at the sixth position. Ali clinched the match for Fordham, defeating Raynor at second singles, 6-0, 6-4.

The Rams then won the final three singles matches with Dabu upending Joana Sun at third singles, coming back after dropping the first set, 6-2, to take the second, 6-4, and the tiebreaker, 10-6. Genkina defeated Marielle Campbell at the fourth spot, winning the first set, 6-4, dropping the second, 6-3, and then coming back to win the third, 6-4.

Simidian closed out the match with a 7-6 (8-6), 6-4, win over Pang at first singles.

The Rams return to action on Friday, April 5, when they host Xavier University on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts at 3:00 PM.
