The Fordham golf team took to the links on Monday, coming in eighth place out of 13 teams at Day One of the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Villanova at White Manor Country Club in Malvern, Pa.
The University of Rhode Island holds the top spot, finishing 27 over par in two rounds played on Monday. Villanova and Delaware tied for second at 32 over par, while Georgetown and Youngstown State rounded out the top five.
Braden Shattuck of Delaware led all scorers through the first two rounds of play, posting a three-under-par 68 in the morning and a one-over-par 72 in the afternoon, good enough for two under for the tournament and a two-shot lead heading into Tuesday.
Brandon Nolan and Jason Del Rosso paced the way for the Rams, as both players sit in a tie for 27th with a 13-over-par 155. Nolan came out firing in round one, shooting a two-over-par 73 to tie him for eighth before shooting an 82 in the afternoon. Del Rosso, on the other hand struggled with an 81 in the first round before posting a 74 in the afternoon.
Jeff Hogan is just one stroke behind the pair of Del Rosso and Nolan, shooting an 81 and a 75 on Monday to put himself in a tie for 33rd with a combined score of 156.
Ben Alcorn had a spectacular round in the morning, throwing up a two-over-par 73, but the Chatham, N.J., native shot an 84 in round two to drop into a tie for 38th.
Brody Nieporte (+17, T48th) rounded out the scorers for Fordham on day one, while Connor Monaghan, who is playing in the tournament as an individual, is in a tie for 62nd (+21).
Fordham finishes up the Wildcat Invitational on Tuesday, as the Rams have one round left to play at White Manor Country Club.
