Women's Tennis Fall to #51 Columbia

New York, N.Y. - Prior to departing on a Spring Break trip to Florida, the Fordham women's tennis squad traveled into Manhattan to face 51st-ranked Columbia University, falling to the Lions, 6-1.

The Rams opened the match dropping the doubles point, losing both completed doubles matches. At first doubles, Angelika Dabu and Bella Genkina fell to Nicole Bartnik and Crystal Leung, 8-3, while at second doubles Julie Leong and Anika Novacek were upended by Bianca Sanon and Ioana Alecsiu, 8-4. Third doubles was not played due to injury.

Novacek picked up the point for Fordham at fourth singles, defeating Nada Zaher in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. The Rams dropped the other three contested singles matches with Dabu falling to #56 Bartnik at first singles, 6-2, 6-2, Genkina dropping second singles to Katarina Kovacevic, 7-5, 6-3, and Leong being upended at the third position by Alecsiu, 6-0, 6-3.

Columbia won at fifth and sixth singles by default.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday, March 12, as they take on Radford College on Orlando, Florida.
