The Fordham men's tennis squad hosted 50th-ranked George Washington University at the Sound Shore Indoor Tennis Center where the Rams were shutout by the Colonials, 7-0.
The match opened with George Washington taking the doubles point, winning both of the completed doubles matches. Alex DeRienzo and Jan Krouham fell to Nikita Fomin and Danil Zelenkov at second doubles, 8-1, and J.J. Tauil and Peder Gram lost to Francisco Dias and Leonardo Lapentti at the third spot, 8-3. Srikar Alla and Max Peara were trailing Alexander van Gils and Ulrik Thomsen at first doubles, 6-5, when the match was halted.
In singles play, the Rams dropped five of the six singles matches in straight sets. The lone match to go to a third set was at the third position where Tauil dropped the first set to Zelenkov, 6-3, before taking the second, 6-2. But Zelenkov came back to win the match by defeating Tauil in set three, 6-1.
The Rams return action on Sunday, March 17, as they travel to Richmond, Virginia, to face the University of Richmond Spiders.
