Women's Tennis Defeats Saint Joseph's, 5-2

Philadelphia, Pa. - The Fordham University women's tennis wrapped up their weekend with a trip to Philadelphia to take on the Saint Joseph's University Hawks and the Rams came away with a 5-2 win at the SJU Tennis Complex.

Fordham won four of the six singles matches and also took the doubles point.

The match opened with the Rams winning the doubles point, sweeping all three doubles matches. Sarah Ali and Amy Simidian defeated Casey Robinson and Kristina Eisenbrand, 8-6, at first doubles, Bella Genkina and Anika Novacek teamed to take second doubles from Aurora Davis and Lauren Roy, 8-4, and Angelika Dabu and Julie Leong were victorious at the third position over Kelly Mulquin and Devi Jadeja, 8-5.

Fordham then won the match with victories at the second, third, fifth and sixth singles spots, three of those in straight sets. Dabu took third singles from Eisenbrand, 6-4, 6-1, Leong bested Mulquin at fifth singles, 6-2, 6-1, and Novacek blanked Roy at the sixth position, 6-0, 6-0.

The only singles match won by the Rams that went to a tiebreaker was at the second position where Ali took the first set from Davis, 6-4, but dropped the second, 6-3. Ali then came back to win the tiebreaker, 10-3, to earn her second singles win over the weekend.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday, March 6, as they travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to take on Vassar College at 3:45 PM.
