The Rams look to continue their winning ways in conference on Saturday, as they host the Colonials of The George Washington University in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
SCOUTING GEORGE WASHINGTON: GW kicks off its 2013 A-10 campaign on Saturday against the Rams. The Colonials finished their non-conference slate with an 11-13 mark, placing them in the middle of the pack in the league.
At the dish, Carlee Gray leads the Colonials in a variety of categories, including hits, batting average and on-base percentage. The freshman out of Elk Grove, Calif., is hitting .377 on the year, having started all 24 games for the Colonials thus far.
In addition to Gray, another underclassman has been coming up big for GW at the plate, and that's Victoria Valos. The infielder from Bakersfield, Calif., leads the Colonials in nearly every major power statistic, topping the team with six homers, 28 runs batted in, a .693 slugging percentage and 19 runs scored.
In the circle, Courtney Martin and Meghan Rico have split starting duties for the Colonials this season, as Martin enters today's doubleheader with a team-best 1.89 ERA in addition to 84 strikeouts and eight complete games. Rico, although checking in with an ERA nearly a full point higher (2.89), sports a 6-5 record to Martin's 5-8 mark.
LAST TIME OUT: Fordham picked up a pair of solid wins on Thursday afternoon, downing La Salle in a double header at Bahosy Field to open up the home portion of their A-10 slate.
Michele Daubman and Jamie LaBovick picked up the wins in the circle for the Rams. LaBovick pitched a complete game in the first tilt, allowing only two hits and one run (unearned) over seven stellar innings of work. The Peoria, Ariz., native struck and six and walked only two. In game number two on the day, Daubman stepped into the circle and gave one of her best performances of the year. The Long Island product tossed six innings of three-hit ball, striking out seven and grabbing the shutout.
At the dish, a handful of Rams had simply amazing outputs, led by Brianna Turgeon, who went 4-5 with two doubles and four RBIs.
Helping their own causes in the circle, Daubman and LaBovick went a combined 9-15 on the day, each picking up a pair of RBIs and two extra-base hits apiece. LaBovick extended her hitting streak to 16 games, just one shy of the school record set by Nicole Callahan last season.
Gabby Luety and Elise Fortier also had standout days for the Rams, registering a combined 5-10 effort and each smacking a two-bagger.
Senior outfielder Chelsea Palumbo also had a huge part in the Rams' success, as she went 2-3 on the day with a homerun and her team-best second triple on the year.
WE'RE GOIN' STREAKIN': Senior Jamie LaBovick is currently on a 16-game hitting streak heading into today's doubleheader, just one game shy of tying a Fordham record. She is batting .532 (33-62) over the streak with 23 runs scored, seven doubles, and 12 RBIs. Juniors Gabby Luety (.432) and Elise Fortier (.429) are both batting well above .400 over their last 15 games. Luety has seven home runs and 25 RBI over those 15 games, while Fortier has six home runs, 25 runs scored, and 14 RBIs in that string. Michele Daubman is 8-1 in her last ten appearances in the circle and is hitting .409 over her last 13 games.
