Men's Tennis Edged by Temple, 4-3

Portchester, N.Y. - The Fordham University men's tennis team was looking to build on the momentum from a win over Sacred Heart on Friday when they hosted Temple University at Sound Shore Tennis on Sunday but the Owls edged the Rams, 4-3.

Fordham opened the match by winning the doubles point, taking both of the completed doubles matches. Srikar Alla and J.J. Tauil defeated Hernan Vasconez and Hicham Belkssir, 8-3, and Max Peara and Matty Najfeld teamed up to win at second doubles over Kristian Marquart and Sam Rundle, 8-6. Alex DeRienzo and Michael Puntillo were leading Nicolas Paulus and Santiago Canete 6-5 at third doubles when the match was halted.

The Rams then won the point at first and second singles with Alla defeating Marquart, 6-1, 6-4, at the first position and Najfeld taking Vasconez, 6-4, 6-4 at the second spot.

DeRienzo almost won the match for Fordham by winning at fourth singles, taking the first set, 6-3, but dropping the second and third by identical 6-2 scores.

The Rams return to action on Thursday, March 28, as they host St. Bonaventure University on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts at 4:00 PM.
