Women's Tennis Upends Temple, 4-3

Bronx, N.Y. - After seeing two matches during the week cancelled due to the weather, the Fordham University women's tennis team moved indoors on Sunday to face Temple University and the Rams upended the Owls, 4-3, at Sound Shore Tennis.

The Rams opened the match by taking the doubles point, winning two of the three matches. Sarah Ali and Amy Simidian teamed up to take first doubles from Cristina Grimaldi and Minami Okajima, 8-3, while Julie Leong and Angelika Dabu were victorious at third doubles over Maame Ama Osei and Rebecca Breland by the same 8-3 score.

In singles play, Fordham won three of the six matches, all in three sets, to earn the win. Simidian dropped the first set to Alicia Doms at first singles, 6-3, but came back to take the second and third by identical 6-3 scores. At fifth singles, Leong lost the first set to Osei, 6-2, but battled back to take the second, 7-6, before winning the match with a6-3 in in the third set.

Novacek picked up the fourth point for the Rams, winning the first set from Okajima at sixth singles, 6-1, dropped the second, 6-3, roared back to win the third set, 6-0.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday, April 3, as they host Marist College on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts at 1:30 PM.
