Softball's Elise Fortier Named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week

Newport News, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference announced its weekly softball awards on Tuesday, as Fordham junior Elise Fortier (Coventry, R.I./Coventry) was named the league's Player of the Week. It is the second consecutive week the a Fordham player has received Player of the Week honors. Fortier also made the NFCA Top Performer Honor Roll for her exploits.

As Fordham extended its win streak to 10 games, Fortier posted an incredible week offensively, hitting .556 (5-9) where all five of her hits with home runs, while scoring 12 runs and collecting eight RBI. She added eight walks in four games to post a .765 on-base percentage and a whopping 2.222 slugging percentage.

In the Rams' win over Detroit on Saturday, Fortier tied a school record by scoring five runs. Later in the day, she hit a walk-off three-run home run against Binghamton. It was her second HR of the game and the school record sixth team home run of the game.

For the year, Fortier is batting .309 and leads the squad with 23 runs scored, five doubles, and eight home runs.

Fortier and the rest of the Fordham softball team are back in action on Friday, March 22nd, when the Rams begin Atlantic 10 play at Charlotte.
