The Fordham University women's tennis team won for the second time in as many matches on its spring trip to Florida, defeating Quinnipiac University, 4-3, at the Florida-Star Island Tennis Courts on Thursday.
The match opened with the Rams dropping the doubles point, losing two of the three doubles matches. Amy Simidian and Sarah Ali picked up a win at first doubles for Fordham, defeating Rachel Cantor and Sarah Viebrock, 9-8 (7) but Bella Genkina and Angelika Dabu fell at the second position to Michelle Dassa and Jacqueline Raynor, 8-2, and Julie Leong and Anika Novacek lost to Mary Chupa and Ariana Launie at third doubles, 8-6.
The Rams rebounded with four singles wins to pull out the victory. Ali was victorious at second singles while Dabu, Leong and Novacek took fourth through sixth singles, respectively.
Ali, Leong and Novacek were all victorious in straight sets with Ali defeating Raynor at second singles, 6-4, 6-2, Leong upending Chupa at fifth singles, 6-2, 6-1 and Novacek besting Launie at the sixth position, 6-3, 6-4.
At fourth singles, Dabu took the first set from Dassa, 6-3, before dropping the second, 6-4. Dabu battled back to win the extended tiebreaker, 11-9, and clinch the win for Fordham.
Simidian took Cantor to a tiebreaker at first singles, dropping the first set, 7-4, before forcing a tiebreaker with a 6-1 win in the second. But Cantor took the tiebreaker, 10-7.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday, March 20, as they travel to Hackensack, N.J., to face FDU at 3:00 p.m.
