The Atlantic 10 Conference announced its weekly softball awards on Monday, as Fordham senior Jamie LaBovick (Peoria, Ariz./Sunrise Mountain) and sophomore Michele Daubman (North Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) were named the league's Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. It is LaBovick's second award of the season and the first for Daubman.
LaBovick, who was named Pitcher of the Week back on February 12th, helped Fordham to a 5-0 weekend at the USF Under Armour Showcase, four of which were shutouts. The senior extended her season-long hit streak to seven games by hitting .526 (10-19) for the tournament, scoring four runs to go, with three RBI.
LaBovick notched two runs scored in the Central Michigan win, and later helped her own cause against Tennessee Tech, pitching a seven-hit shutout and collecting three hits. She had her second multi-hit game of the weekend against Western Michigan and had three hits and two RBI in a shutout versus Youngstown State.
Daubman picks up her second career weekly award, after posting a 3-0 record at the USF Showcase this weekend. She did not allow a single earned run over 19.0 innings of work and totaled 17 strikeouts.
The sophomore began the weekend with a career-high nine strikeouts in a 7-1 win over Central Michigan, allowing one unearned run and three hits. She later followed with her first shutout of the season against Western Michigan, tossing a three-hitter for her second career shutout. Daubman ended the week with five shutout innings and struck out four batters each in both the Western Michigan and Maine games.
LaBovick, Daubman, and the rest of the Fordham softball team are back in action on Tuesday, March 12th, when the Rams take on Boston University at 1:30 PM in Clearwater, Florida.
