PHILADELPHIA -
After tying their highest ever win total in Atlantic 10 play
with their fifth conference victory of the year against VCU, the Rams hit
the road for a game against La Salle on Wednesday night at 7 PM.
In addition to securing their fifth conference win in just six attempts
on Saturday, the Rams also secured a winning regular season record
for the first time since 1994-1995 .
SERIES HISTORY: Wednesday night is just the latest installation in a long
standing rivalry between the Rams and the Explorers. Having played each
other as members of both the MAAC and the Atlantic 10, Fordham and
La Salle will meet for the 43rd time when they tip-off in the Gola Arena.
Historically, La Salle holds the series advantage, taking home 34
victories while surrendering only eight losses. When playing at La Salle,
Fordham has only won three out of 19 games.
But if one has followed the Rams this season, he or she should
know that Coach Gaitley's squad has displayed a knack for defying series
histories. The Rams beat Charlotte for the first time in program history
last month, bested Richmond for only the second time and downed Xavier
for the first time in 18 tries in Cincinnati.
SCOUTING LA SALLE: Under the direction of third year head coach
Jeff Williams, La Salle has turned in a 7-14 record so far this season while
going 3-3 in conference.
La Salle may be struggling to pick up victories this season, but
redshirt senior guard Brittany Wilson has certainly had no trouble finding
the bottom of the basket. The Pawtucket, R.I., native averages 18.3 points
per game, good enough for first in the conference. Wilson also leads the
Explorers in assists, with just under three per outing, and rebounds, pulling
in 6.5 per contest.
The Explorers feature two other scorers averaging double figures.
Senior Shanel Harrison averages 11 points per game while fellow senior
Ebonee Jones nets 10.7 per outing.
While their winning percentage this season won't turn any heads,
a closer look at La Salle's schedule shows that the Explorers played some
tough competition in a non-conference slate that saw just four wins. They
fell to North Carolina in the Dean Dome, faced road tilts against three Big
East opponents (Georgetown, Villanova and Rutgers) and hosted SEC
power Florida in the Gola Arena. All five of these contests resulted in a
loss for the Explorers.
