Rams Drop Two Games on First Day of NFCA Leadoff Classic

BRONX, N.Y. - Heading into their second weekend of play with a 4-1 record, the Rams faltered on Day One of the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Fla., dropping a 4-2 decision to DePaul in the first contest before getting blanked 4-0 by UCF in the afternoon's second game.

Game One: DePaul

Ali Lenti knocked in a pair of runs in the sixth to help DePaul (5-6) move past Fordham (4-2) in the first game of the NFCA Leadoff Classic.

The Rams and the Blue Demons remained scoreless over the first two innings of play on Friday, as Jamie LaBovick pitched her way out of a jam in the first, causing the Blue Demons to leave three on base.

DePaul pushed two runs across in the top of the third and Fordham struggled to answer back.

The Blue Demons held the Rams scoreless over the next several innings, extending their lead to four in the top of sixth when Lenti smacked a two RBI double to left center.

Fordham responded in the home half of the seventh, as Kayla Lombardo and Paige Ortiz each picked up an RBI, but their effort ultimately fell short and the Rams lost 4-2.

Hannah Penna (W, 2-2)picked up the win for DePaul, tossing a four-hit complete game, while LaBovick (L, 3-1) suffered her first loss of the season, surrendering three earned runs on six hits over six innings of work.

Game Two: UCF

Shelby Turnier (W, 3-2) pitched a two-hitter over six innings of work as UCF (7-6) downed Fordham, 4-0, on Friday afternoon.

The Knights jumped out to a 1-0 lead over the Rams (4-3) in the second inning when Lindsay Neyland scored from third on a wild pitch.

Michelle Daubman (L, 1-2) held UCF scoreless over the next three frames, but UCF rattled off three runs in the top of the sixth to move ahead 4-0.

Gabby Leuty and Jess Crowley registered hits for Fordham on the afternoon. Fordham is back in action tomorrow, taking on Indiana and Pacific. First pitch against the Hoosier is slated for 1 PM, with the Pacific game coming about 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first.
