KINGSTON, R.I. -
Having guaranteed the program's first-ever winning A-10 record with a victory over Saint Louis on Sunday, the Fordham Rams are back in action in Rhode Island Thursday night, facing off against the Rams of URI in a 7 PM tilt.
With a win, Fordham would complete the first "Ram Sweep," becoming the only one of the four Divison I institutions with the nickname Rams to defeat the other three all in the same season. Fordham has already beaten Colorado State and VCU so far this year.
SERIES HISTORY: Heading into Thursday's game in the Ryan Center, Fordham holds a 12-18 record all-time against the Rams of Rhode Island.
The two teams last met in the Bronx a year ago, with Fordham taking the decision, 69-49, the third straight meeting between the two schools in which the Rams from New York came out on top.
When hosting Rhode Island, Fordham is 7-8 all-time, but when playing in New England, Fordham has won only five out of 15 contests.
SCOUTING RHODE ISLAND: Under the direction of fourth year head coach Cathy Inglese, Rhode Island has struggled so far this season, compiling a 6-19 record through 25 contests with a 1-9 mark in the Atlantic 10. The Rams actually picked up their first conference win not too long ago, beating UMass at home on Tuesday afternoon, 45-42.
As a team, Rhode Island often has trouble finding the bottom of the basket, scoring a conference-low 48.8 points per game while shooting only 35 percent from the floor, which ranks 15th in the league.
Individually, Tayra Melendez leads the Rams with 11.1 points per contest in addition to pulling down 4.6 boards per game.
The Rhode Island starting five has also been one that is constantly in flux, with 11 players making at least three starts on the year.
