After a pair of postponed matches over the weekend, the Fordham women's tennis team was back in action on Friday, taking on St. John's at the National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows. The Rams posted singles victories at first and sixth singles, but it was not enough as the Red Storm took a 5-2 decision from the Rams.
First, in doubles action, Fordham won at third doubles behind Julie Leong and Angelika Dabu's 8-3 final over St. John's Amber Washington and Ksenia Mikhaylova. The Rams though were unable to earn the doubles point, as St. John's captured wins at first and second doubles by scores of 8-4 and 8-2.
In singles action, Fordham won two of the six singles matches with a third one being very tight.
Amy Simidian defeated St. John's Nevena Selakovic at first singles in a super tie-breaker, 6-4, 4-6, and 10-8, while Anika Novacek topped Mikhaylova at sixth singles, 7-6 (7-3) and 6-3. Bella Genkina came close to a third win for the Rams, but she fell to Diamond Adams at fourth singles, 7-5, 6-4.
The Fordham women's tennis team will next be in action on Saturday, February 23rd, when the Rams play at Dartmouth, beginning at 9:00 AM.
