The Fordham water polo team wrapped up its regular season on Sunday, earning a split of its matches. The Rams opened the day with a 9-5 loss at Harvard, while later, Fordham topped Connecticut College, 12-5.
With the split, Fordham ends the regular season with a 12-15 overall record and a 4-8 mark in the CWPA's Northern Division.
In the first match, Harvard topped Fordham, 9-5.
The Crimson got out to a 4-0 lead after the first quarter, taking advantage of two man-up opportunities.
Trailing 6-2 at the half, Fordham tried to rally back, getting third period goals from
Andrew Gonzalez and
Davis DeFontes to pull within two, 6-4.
Nicholas Allen then scored to open the fourth quarter to cut the Fordham deficit to one, 6-5. However, Harvard ended the game with the final three goals of the contest to win the game by four.
For Fordham, Allen finished with two goals, while DeFontes, Gonzalez, and
Patrick Lenihan each had one. In net,
Noah LeBeau finished with 15 saves and two steals.
In match two, the Rams rebounded with a 12-5 win over Connecticut College.
Fordham got a big game from Lenihan, as he scored three times to lead the offense. Allen and
Ben Clinkinbeard also had two goals apiece, with Gonzalez, DeFontes,
R.J. Simmons,
Landon Kern, and
Mike Hay rounding out the Fordham markers.
In net, LeBeau played the first three quarters, making eight saves to go with two assists.
Eric Mullery started the final quarter, tallying three saves, with
Patrick Harrigan wrapping up the game with one save.
With its 4-8 conference record, Fordham tied for fifth in the Northern Division, but will be seeded sixth at the Northern Division Championship due to a goal differential tie-breaker with Iona. The Rams will face third-seeded Brown in the first match of the championship on Saturday, November 9
th, beginning at 12:30 PM in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
