The Fordham University men's basketball Rams opens their 2013 Atlantic 10 season by hosting the Duquesne University Dukes in the Rose Hill Gym tonight at 7:00 PM. Fordham enters the game with a 4-11 record after a 95-68 loss at Ole Miss on Friday night. Duquesne enters the game with a 7-7 record and is coming off an 84-74 loss at Penn State on December 29.
Wednesday night's contest will be the 31st meeting between Fordham and Duquesne on the hardwood with the Dukes leading the all-time series, which started in the 1949-50 season, 18-12. Duquesne has won the past four meetings, including a 77-67 win in Pittsburgh last year on February 15 where B.J. Monteiro scored 20 points and had eight rebounds and T.J. McConnell and Sean Johnson each added 13. Fordham's Chris Gaston led all scorers last year with 23 points and he added eleven rebounds.
On the court, Fordham is led by junior guard Branden Frazier, who is averaging a team-high 15.7 ppg, fifth in the Atlantic 10, and he is averaging a team-best 5.1 assists/game, second best in the A-10. Senior forward Chris Gaston is averaging 14.1 ppg and a team-high 7.1 rpg while freshman guard Mandell Thomas is averaging 10.3 ppg over the past four games and 5.1 ppg on the year and sophomore Ryan Canty notched his third double-double of the year with 15 points and ten rebounds at Ole Miss on Friday. Canty is averaging 7.1 ppg and 6.7 rpg on the year.
