The Fordham women's basketball team will look to clinch its first ten win non-conference record since 1993-1994 when they play host to the Crusaders of Holy Cross on Sunday afternoon in the Rose Hill Gym.
SERIES HISTORY: Fordham and Holy Cross are certainly no strangers to one another, with this being the 40th meeting all-time between the two programs who once shared the same conference affiliation in both the MAAC and the Patriot League. Historically, Holy Cross has dominated its Jesuit neighbors to the south, as Fordham did not secure its first win until ten seasons into the rivalry and currenlty sits with a 8-31 record all-time against the Crusaders
After a relatively long layoff in the series between 2003 and 2010, the two squads have played each of the past two seasons, with the Rams taking the victory on both occasions.
SCOUTING HOLY CROSS: Coming off a road win over Dartmouth on Thursday night, the Crusaders enter Sunday's contest with a 7-6 record overall. No strangers to life on the road, Sunday's matchup against Fordham marks the eighth straight game in which Holy Cross will be the visitors, not having played at home since November 28th against Central Connecticut.
Offensively, the Crusaders are led by the play of junior guard Alex Smith. The 5'8"native of Delran, N.J., averages a team-best 14.7 points per game, shooting 41 percent from the field and 38 percent from beyond the arc. Also a prolific defender, Smith leads the team with 27 steals, averaging just over two per game.
A captain of the Crusaders along with Smith, Amy Lepley is the only other Holy Cross player to average in double figure scoring numbers so far this season. The 6'0" senior from Norfolk, Mass., averages an even ten points per contest, but has played in only four games this season. It didn't take Lepley long to get back in the hang of things; however, as she netted 16 points on a perfect 7-7 effort from the floor in her season-debut against Bryant on December 21st.
