For the second consecutive week and the third time this season, Fordham's trio of senior Brienne Ryan (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall), junior Shintaro Noguchi (Tiburon, Calif./Redwood), and freshman Steve Sholdra (Renton, Wash./H.B. Education) were among this week's Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving award winners, it was announced by the league on Tuesday. Ryan was selected as the Women's Co-Performer of the Week for the sixth time this season, while Noguchi earned Men's Performer of the Week honors for the third time this year. Fordham's final award winner was Sholdra, who was the Men's Rookie of the Week for an Atlantic 10 record seventh time.
Capturing her 13th career Atlantic 10 Performer award, Ryan was named Women's Co-Performer of the Week after competition against Rider and Rutgers. The senior took home first place in the 100 backstroke (55.04) and 200 backstroke (2:02.55), while also swimming on the 400 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay teams which both placed second.
Noguchi garnered Men's Performer of the Week accolades for the fourth time in his career after a very strong weekend against Rider and Yale this past week. The junior won the 200 freestyle event with a season-best time of 1:41.93, while also taking home a first place finish in the 100 butterfly in 49.90. Noguchi was also a member of the first place 400 freestyle relay team.
Sholdra broke former Fordham diver Donnie Callara's Atlantic 10 record of six rookie awards with his seventh of the season on Tuesday. He captured the honor after competing against Rider and Yale. The freshman posted two wins in the 500 freestyle (4:38.77) and 1,000 freestyle (9:28.69), while also finishing fourth in the 200 butterfly (1:54.95) and second in the 400 freestyle relay.
Ryan, Nougchi, Sholdra and the rest of the Fordham swimming & diving teams will next be in action on Saturday, February 2nd, when the Rams host Massachusetts at 1:00 PM in the Messmore Aquatic Center.
