Men's Basketball Faces Charlotte in Atlantic 10 Matchup Tonight

The Fordham University men'¬s basketball squad will return to action tonight as they have their first Atlantic 10 road test of the year, traveling to Charlotte, N.C., to take on the Charlotte 49ers in the Halton Arena at 7:30 PM.

The game will be broadcast live on WFUV (90.7 FM) and on the internet at wfuv.org and can be watched live on at Charlotte49ers.com (fee required).

Fordham enters the game with a 5-12 record, 1-1 in the Atlantic 10, after a 77-73 Atlantic 10 loss to UMass in the Rose Hill Gym on Sunday. Charlotte enters the contest with a 14-2 overall record, 2-0 in the conference, and is coming off a 58-50 conference win at Rhode Island on January 12.

On the court, Fordham is led by junior guard Branden Frazier, who is averaging a team-high 16.1 ppg, fourth in the Atlantic 10, and leads the team with 93 assists, second best in the A-10, while senior forward Chris Gaston is averaging 15.0 ppg, second best on the squad, and a team-high 7.9 rpg, after his fourth double-double of the year in the UMass game, scoring 20 points and adding 13 rebounds. Sophomore center Ryan Canty is averaging 7.4 ppg and 7.2 rpg on the year, 10.0 ppg and 11.3 rpg over the past four games, and leads the team with 17 blocks. Canty is also shooting 59.6% (59-99) on the year, third best in the Atlantic 10, including 66.7% (18-27) over the past four games.

Wednesday night's contest will be the tenth meeting between Fordham and Charlotte on the hardwood. The 49ers, who joined the Atlantic 10 in 2005-06 but will be leaving following this year, have won four straight in the series and eight of the previous nine match-ups, including a 69-62 win in the Rose Hill Gym last year on February 4 as Chris Braswell scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while Chris Gaston scored a game-high 25 points and added 14 rebounds for the Rams.
