Fordham Assistant Track & Field Coach Ed Joyce Passes Away

Jan. 13, 2013

Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham Athletics mourned the loss of assistant cross country/track & field coach Ed Joyce on Sunday, as he passed away early Sunday morning at Calvary Hospice in the Bronx, after a long bout with cancer. Coach Joyce was honored with a moment of silence prior to the start of Sunday's men's basketball game between Fordham and Massachusetts.

Joyce, the former head coach of girl's track and field and cross country at St. Francis High School, was in his eighth season as a member of the Fordham Track and Field Coaching staff, working with the horizontal jumpers and the throwers.

In the late 1970's and early 1980's, Joyce led the St. Francis girl's track and field and cross country teams to eight city championships.

A 1970 graduate of St. John's University, Joyce was a member of the track and field squads while an undergraduate, winning various Metropolitan Championships.

Joyce was a certified USA Track and Field official who served as the track and field coordinator for the Empire State Games. He retired recently as an Assistant Principal with the New York City Board of Education, after serving with the Board of Education for 33 years.
