The Rams enter after opening the 2012 season with a 55-0 win over Lock Haven University on Jack Coffey Field on August 30th, the school's 750th all-time win. Fordham became the 15th NCAA Division I school to reach the milestone, just the fourth NCAA FCS and the first non-Ivy League institution (Yale, Harvard, Penn and Princeton are the others).

This will be the 27th meeting between Fordham and Villanova on the gridiron. The Wildcats lead the all-time series, which started in 1897, 19-3-4, and have won the past 12 meetings, including a 24-10 win in the last matchups between the two schools, that coming in 2002 in the second round of the NCAA I-AA playoffs. The last Fordham win in the series came in 1920 when the Rams upended the Wildcats, 12-6.
