The Fordham men's soccer team returns to action this weekend as the Rams travel to Providence, Rhode Island, to compete in the Brown Classic. The Rams open competition with Siena on Friday, September 7, at 5:00 PM and follow that with a matchup against the host school on Sunday, September 9, at 2:30 PM.
Fordham enters the game with a 1-2 record on the season. The Rams opened the year with a 1-0 loss at Rutgers, rebounded with a 1-0 blanking of Adelphi on Jack Coffey Field and most recently fell to Hartford 1-0 at home. Nathaniel Bekoe and Ryan Walsh have the only points on the year as Bekoe assisted on the goal by Walsh in the win over the Panthers.Friday's game with the Saints will be the first time the two schools have met since 2006. During head coach Jim McElderry's tenure at Fordham, the Rams are 1-1 against Siena. The Saints defeated Fordham, 3-2, in a game played in the Bronx in 2005 but the Rams rebounded the following year and beat Siena 1-0, in double overtime.
In 2012, the Saints are 2-1 with an opening-season loss to North Florida and victories over Jacksonville and Buffalo. Sindre Ek leads the team with three goals on the season.
The #24 Brown Bears face the Rams on Sunday in the final game of the tournament. Brown enters the tournament with a 2-0 record, having defeated Rhode Island and Providence earlier in the season. They are led by Thomas McNamara, who has one of the team's two goals this year.
Fordham returns to the Brown Tournament for the first time since 2007. In that tournament, Fordham fell to Boston University and Brown.
Following the Brown Classic, the Rams have a pair of road games before returning home. The team will travel to Long Island to face Stony Brook on Friday, September 14, and then venture up to Yale on September 21 before returning home to host Manhattan on Friday, September 28, at 7:30.
