On Friday, the Fordham women's soccer team posted its first multi-goal game of the season. On Sunday, it was the Rams posting their first come-from-behind win of the year, as Kaitlin Abrams scored the equalizer in the second half, while Victoria Camaj netted the game-winner in overtime, as Fordham topped the Loyola Greyhounds, 2-1, at Jack Coffey Field.
With the win, Fordham registered its first back-to-back wins of the season, improving to 4-6-0 on the season, while Loyola falls to 4-3-3.
Loyola came out of the gates with the first two scoring chances of the game, but was denied on both occasions by Fordham goalkeeper Ally White. The Greyhounds would breakthrough in the 36th minute. Julia Hajjar hit a long pass toward Nichole Schiro, who was able to one-touch around a defender and White to score her sixth goal of the season.
Fordham would find the equalizer in the second half in the 67th minute. After a foul, Rachel Madacsi's free kick toward goal glanced off a Loyola defender over the endline, giving Fordham a corner kick. Cara Rooney then placed the corner kick right on Kaitlin Abrams' head, knocking it into the goal for her first of the season.
The game then turned into a track meet with both teams going all out to find the go-ahead marker, but both defenses would come up big. First, Fordham's Rachel Suther, who came in at halftime, made a tip save on Loyola's Schiro, which was followed by Loyola goalkeeper Didi Haracic making a leaping stop on a shot by Annie Worden.
Later, Loyola caught Suther out of the goal in the 85th minute with Kelsey Donohue putting a shot toward the right post, but JoJo Murino would knock it off the line for a defender save. The Greyhounds returned the favor on a Kaitlyn Carballeira header off a corner kick, as Jenny Thornton made the defender save at the right post.
The score remained at 1-1, heading into overtime with Loyola getting the opening kick. Fordham gained control on a turnover and headed on offense, as Murino lobbed in a pass into the box, which Victoria Camaj took a quick shot and scored to the lower half of the net for her first career goal.
In net, Suther recorded the win, making four saves, while White had two for Fordham, while Haracic had seven stops for the Greyhounds.
The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Friday, September 28th, when the Rams open conference play against the Duquesne Dukes in the first half of the soccer doubleheader at Jack Coffey Field.
