Final Stats

New Haven, Conn. - It's no surprise that when two teams who had scored five goals over their first six games meet, it would be a defensive battle. Such was the case on Friday night as Fordham battled Yale to a scoreless tie at Reese Stadium, the third shutout the year for the Rams.

The tie evens Fordham's record at 3-3-1 on the year while Yale goes to 2-3-2.

Scoring chances were at a premium, with Fordham being outshot by Yale, 11-8, but only two Bulldog shots got through to Fordham keeper Sean Brailey and just one made it to Yale netminder Bobby Thalman.

The Rams had had the first opportunity to get on the board as in the 16th minute, the Rams took advantage of a Yale miscue and Kalle Sotka got off a blast was turned aside by Thalman.

Just over ten minutes later, Yale's Scott Armbrust had a shot blocked in front of the Fordham net and in the 34th minute, Avery Schwartz was able to get a head on a cross but Brailey knocked it away from the Fordham net.

The Bulldogs threatened in the 73rd minute on a shot off the foot of Tony Wilbar but Brailey was up to the task with his second save of the night.

Each team managed one shot in the first overtime with Fordham's Nathaniel Bekoe seeing his blocked in the 96th minute and Yale's Peter Jacobson sailing one over the cross bar in the 99th minute.

Neither squad got off a shot in the second overtime.

The Rams will next be in action next Friday, September 28th, as they host the Manhattan College Jaspers on Jack Coffey Field in the annual Battle of the Bronx at 7:30 p.m.
