The Fordham water polo team wrapped up competition at the Brown Invitational on Sunday, as the Rams dropped a 16-7 decision to Diablo Valley College and a 9-5 game to 18th-ranked St. Francis (NY) College.
The two losses drop Fordham's record to 0-3 against collegiate competition.
In the first match of the day, Diablo Valley's Bora Dimitrov netted four goals to lead DVC to a 16-7 victory over the Rams.
The Rams trailed by four at the half, 7-3, but DVC put the pressure on in the second half, outscoring Fordham, 8-4, to post the victory.
For Fordham, Nicholas Allen netted three goals and two steals, while Ben Clinkinbeard had a goal and two assists. Andrew Gonzalez, Alex Judge, and Patrick Lenihan also scored for Fordham. In net, Noah LeBeau made two saves in the first half, while Partick Harrigan had five saves and a penalty block in the second half.
In match two, the Rams fell to its second ranked opponent of the weekend, #18 St. Francis (NY), 9-5.
Fordham pulled out strong with a 3-2 lead after the first quarter, but the Terriers netted four goals in the second quarter to take a 6-3 advantage. The Terriers finished the game outscoring Fordham, 3-2, in the second half.
For Fordham, Bobby Wurtz scored two goals and had two steals, while Allen, Daniel Barron and Landon Kern each had one goal. In net, Eric Mullery got the start making nine saves in the first half, while LeBeau had three saves, three steals, and two penalty blocks in the second.
The Fordham water polo team will next be in action on September 8-9, when the team competes in the Princeton Invitational, which will feature matches against #2 UCLA, #12 Princeton, Bucknell and George Washington.
