Bronx, N.Y. -
The Fordham women's basketball team released its 2012-13 schedule today, a schedule that features games against 13 teams who advanced to the postseason last year and matchups with three Jesuit schools and a pair of BIG EAST teams. The Rams will also host the sixth annual Fordham Holiday Classic on December 29-30.
The 2012-13 Rams will face three teams that advanced to the 2012 NCAA Tournament, Albany, the America East champions, Dayton, the 2012 Atlantic 10 champions, and St. Bonaventure, who advanced to the regional semifinals. Fordham will also take on eight schools that earned a berth in the 2012 NIT (American, Charlotte, Duquesne, Pacific, Richmond, Saint Joseph's, Temple and VCU) and two squads who appeared in the Women's Basketball Invitational (Manhattan and Holy Cross).
Fordham opens the 2012-13 season with a trip upstate facing the University at Albany, the defending American East Champions, on November 9th, and then venture over to Ithaca to take on Cornell University on November 11th.
The Rams return to the Bronx the following week for their home opener, hosting the Delaware State University Hornets at the Rose Hill Gym on November 18th.
The team then flies to the west coast, spending its Thanksgiving break in the Golden Gate state, facing fellow Jesuit school San Francisco on November 21st and the University of the Pacific on the 23rd.
After the squad returns home to face Bronx rival Manhattan College in the annual "Battle of the Bronx" on November 28th, Fordham heads back on the road to open December against Big East and Jesuit foe, Marquette University, on December 1st.
The Rams travel up to New Haven to take on Yale University on December 4th and then return home for three straight contests, beginning with Stony Brook on December 8th. Southern University comes to the Bronx for a game on December 10th followed by Morgan State on the 16th.
Following the Christmas break, Fordham hosts its sixth-annual Holiday Classic on December 29th and 30th in the Rose Hill Gymnasium. This year's participants include Providence, Lafayette and Colorado State.
The Rams open the New Year in Washington, D.C., taking on American University on January 4th and then close out non-conference play with their third Jesuit opponent, Holy Cross, on January 6th in the Rose Hill Gym.
Fordham opens Atlantic 10 action on January 13th at Charlotte in a game that will be televised by the CBS Sports Network.
The Rams return to the Rose Hill Gym for back-to-back conference home games, first hosting Massachusetts on January 16th and then Richmond on January 20th.
Fordham goes back on the road for its next two games, traveling to Cincinnati for a game with Xavier University on January 23rd, and then to Pittsburgh for a meeting with Duquesne University on January 27th.
February opens with the Rams hosting one of the newest Atlantic 10 members, VCU, on the 2nd, before the Rams travel to Philadelphia to face La Salle University on February 6th.
The Rams host the University of Dayton and George Washington University on February 10th and 13th, respectively, before traveling to St. Louis to face Saint Louis University on the 17th and then to Kingston, R.I., to tip-off with the University of Rhode Island on the 21st.
The Rams wrap up the regular season with two straight home games, hosting Saint Joseph's University on February 24th and St. Bonaventure University on February 27th before venturing down to Philadelphia to meet up with Temple University on March 3rd to close out the schedule.
The first three rounds of the 2013 Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Championship will be held at the Michael J. Hagan '85 Arena on the campus of Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia, March 8-10. The championship game will be played at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Saturday, March 16th.
The Rams enter 2012-13 season off the heels of a 2011-12 campaign that saw them win the most non-conference games (nine) since joining the Atlantic 10 in 1995-96. The success was due to a strong defense, a trademark of teams led by head coach Stephanie Gaitley. Fordham was second in the conference in scoring defense last year as the Rams earned a berth in the 2012 Atlantic 10 Basketball Championship.
