SERIES HISTORY: This is the first ever meeting between Fordham and Dartmouth in women's soccer. The Big Green are coming off a 3-0 win on Friday against in-state rival New Hampshire.
LAST TIME OUT: Columbia's Coleen Rizzo netted the opening goal of the contest in the 13th minute and added an assist later in the game, as the Lions shut out the Fordham Rams, 2-0, in women's soccer action on Friday night at Columbia Soccer Stadium.
After each goalkeeper was tested once in the opening ten minutes, Columbia found the first marker of the game on a set piece. Coleen Rizzo headed in a corner kick by Erin Falk for her second goal of the season at the 12:10 mark.
The Rams looked for the equalizer in the first half but couldn't put a shot on goal until Victoria Camaj forced a save from Columbia goalkeeper Grace Redmon in the 38th minute.
The score remained at 1-0 behind stellar defense by both teams, as Redmon and Fordham goalkeeper Rachel Suther denied a number of attempts over the first 30 minutes of the second half. However, Columbia would pick up an insurance goal in the 76th minute, as Rizzo intercepted a clear attempt, played it back into the box, and found Beverly Leon for her second goal of the season and a 2-0 lead.
The Rams tried everything over the final 14 minutes to get on the board, throwing eight shots and three corner kicks at the Lions, but Columbia held the Rams at bay for the shutout victory.
In net, Suther had five saves for the Rams, while Redmon had eight for the Lions.
WHO'S NEXT: The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action at home on Friday, September 21st, when the Rams take on the Fairfield Stags at 7:00 PM.
