Following a weekend that saw the Fordham men's soccer team sweep Siena and #22 Brown at the Brown Soccer Classic, the Rams will continue its torrid play as it looks for its third straight win with a visit to Stony Brook on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
The Rams, currently 3-2 on the season, have won two straight and had four players named to the All-Tournament Team at Brown. The honorees were Nathaniel Bekoe, Ryan Curran, Kalle Sotka and Kyle Bitterman; with Bekoe taking home MVP accolades.
Offensively, Fordham is led by Michael Valencia and Sotka; each of them has three points on a goal and an assist. After that, Bekoe, Tommy Granot and Ryan Walsh have earned two points.
The team's biggest strength for the second straight year is the defense. Goalie Sean Brailey has a 3-2 mark with a pair of shutouts to his credit, while the back line of Ryan Curran, Michael Stalker, Casper Gimand and Ryan Cupolo have allowed just three goals in five games.
The Seawolves are a team that has competed in the NCAA regionals in two of the last three seasons. They enter the weekend with an overall record of 3-2, including a 1-0 mark at home. The two schools are meeting for the first time ever.
Recently, Stony Brook split a pair of games with Atlantic 10 opponents, beating Saint Joseph's, 2-0, and losing to #7 Charlotte, 3-0. Besides those contests, the Seawolves have an overtime win over Lehigh, a victory against Fairleigh Dickinson and a loss at Villanova.
Leonardo Fernandes leads Stony Brook in scoring with five points on a goal and three assists. Alejandro Fritz has scored two goals so far, in 2012.
Following the matchup with Stony Brook, the Rams close out a stretch of four straight road games with a trip to New Haven, Connecticut, for a matchup with Yale on Friday, September 21, before returning home to face Manhattan in the annual "Battle of the Bronx" game on September 28.
For the fans heading to the game at Stony Brook, please keep in mind that the meeting is the second half of a doubleheader, so the game may start later than the scheduled 7:30 PM starting time.
