Fordham's Patrick Murray Named National Placekicker Player of the Week for Second Straight Week

For the second straight week, Fordham senior Patrick Murray (Mahwah, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) was named National Placekicker Player of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) as well as Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week it was announced today.

In a 28-13 loss at Villanova on Saturday night, Murray connected on two field goals, including a 50-yarder to open the game's scoring, his second 50-yard field goal of the year. In the season-opener against Lock Haven on August 30th, Murray broke the Fordham and Patriot League field goal record, connecting on a 52-yarder in the third quarter.

Murray, who also booted a 37-yard field goal at Villanova, is a perfect 4-for-4 in field goals in 2012 and 8-for-8 in PATs.

Against Villanova, Murray also punted five times for 220 yards (44.0 yards/punt), with two of the punts being downed inside the Villanova 20. He also kicked off four times for 260 yards, with one touchback, and even gained 25 yards on a fake punt run that gave the Rams a first down on the first possession of the game.

Murray wasn't alone in earning weekly honors as senior linebacker Michael Martin (Arlington, Tex./Juan Seguin) was named the Honorable Mention Linebacker Performer of the Week by the CFPA.

Martin recorded a game-high eleven tackles at Villanova, nine solo, including three for a loss of 21 yards and one sack. He also registered a forced fumble.

On the year, Martin leads the Rams with 20 total tackles, 15 solo, including five for loss and two sacks.

The Rams will return to action on Saturday, September 15th, as they host Cornell University on Jack Coffey Field at 1:00 p.m. as part of Homecoming 2012.
