Men's Soccer Opens Exhibition Season with 3-1 Win at Bryant

Aug. 13, 2012

Providence, R.I. - After a week of practice, the 2012 Fordham men's soccer team finally got to face an opponent when it traveled up to Rhode Island on Sunday, where the Rams defeated Bryant College, 3-1, in an exhibition match. Kalle Sotka, who found the back of the net twice, and Julian Nagel accounted for the three Fordham goals.

The game was divided into three thirty-minute periods so that both teams could rotate in as many players as possible. Fordham finished the contest with 28 players seeing action, including numerous newcomers. Sotka, a sophomore who is in his first at Fordham after transferring from Monmouth, scored a pair of markers for Fordham, while Nagel added a third goal.

Defensively for the Rams, who are looking to replace 2011 A-10 Defensive Player of the Year Ryan Meara in goal, all four Fordham netminders on the roster saw action. Sean Brailey opened the game and manned the net for the first 30 minutes while the second period saw Ricky Berotti in goal for the Rams. Mike DeVito and Antonio Salluzzi split time in the final third of the scrimmage. Salluzzi gave up Bryant's lone goal on a rebound after making the initial save on a penalty kick.

The Rams return to exhibition action on Saturday, August 18, as they travel to Poughkeepsie, New York to face Marist at 7:00 PM. Please note, the home exhibition game against St. Peter's originally scheduled for Tuesday, August 14, has been cancelled with no makeup date. This means the Rams' next game at Jack Coffey Field will be their regular-season home opener against Adelphi on Sunday, August 26 at 1:00 PM.
