Bronx, N.Y. -
The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced the Scholar All America Team Awards for this season. Once again, Fordham was honored with both the men's and women's swimming & diving teams, receiving Scholar All-American Team status. This is the ninth consecutive year that both squads have been on the Scholar All-American team.
Instituted during the 2003-04 academic year, the criteria for the Scholar All-American Team award is given to a team competing at the NCAA, NAIA, or junior college levels, and maintains a GPA of a 3.0 or better. The GPA includes all athletes who competed in any competition during the course of the season.
The Fordham men's team's GPA of 3.02, ranked them in a tie for 67th overall out of the 74 teams that qualified
The Fordham women's team posted a 3.13 team GPA, tying for 129th overall, making them one of 143 schools, that were listed as a Scholar All-American Team.
Fordham joined fellow Jesuit institution, Xavier, as well as George Washington, as the only three Atlantic 10 schools to have both teams honored. The women's teams from Richmond, Duquesne, Rhode Island, La Salle, and Massachusetts were the other Atlantic 10 teams listed.
"This has been a team-oriented goal that our kids always strive for ever since the CSCAA instituted it," said head coach Steve Potsklan. "We are extremely proud of our student-athletes for the work they do not just in the pool, but in the classroom."
