The Fordham University men's and women's basketball teams learned their 2012-13 Atlantic 10 pairings from the league office today as the conference welcomes Butler University and Virginia Commonwealth University to the league lineup in 2012-13.
The Fordham men's schedule will consist of 16 games, eight home and eight away, with each school facing one opponent in a home-and-home series. Head coach Tom Pecora's squad will face Saint Joseph's University twice next winter.
In addition to the home game with Saint Joseph's, the Rams will host newcomer Butler, Duquesne, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Richmond, Saint Louis and Temple.
The trip to Philadelphia to face Saint Joseph's will be one of two trips to the city for the Fordham men who will also play at La Salle. Other conference road opponents include Charlotte, Dayton, George Washington, St. Bonaventure, VCU and Xavier.
The 14-game Atlantic 10 women's schedule is set up so that each team plays all other members once, with the exception of one team. The Rams will not face Butler in 2012-13.
Head coach Stephanie Gaitley's Rams will host Dayton, George Washington, Massachusetts, Richmond, Saint Joseph's, St. Bonaventure, and VCU while the women will play at Charlotte, Duquesne, La Salle, Rhode Island, Saint Louis, Temple and Xavier.
Dates for both the men and women Atlantic 10 games will be released by the conference office at a later date.
The top 12 teams in the regular season qualify for A-10 Men's Championship from March 14-17, with all 12 teams advancing to Brooklyn for the first round and quarterfinals. Plans for the 2013 Atlantic 10 Women's Tournament have not been finalized.
