Fordham University junior Brienne Ryan (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall) finished her run at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials at the CenturyLink Center on Saturday in the 200 meter backstroke event, where she placed 70th overall out of 186 competitors.
Ryan's time of 2:17.42 placed her fourth in her heat, behind heat winner Cindy Tran (2:15.74), Anna Senko (2:16.77), and Ella Eastin (2:16.77). Ryan put together a good pace in her heat, touching second at both the 50-meter and 150-meter mark, behind only Tran.
The competition in the 200-meter backstroke however was extremely difficult, as not even Tran, who won the heat qualified for the semifinals. Of the top 16 finishes, the final qualifier for the semifinals was Jillian Vitarius at 2:13.93, while the top qualifier was Missy Franklin at 2:08.35.
Earlier in the trials, Ryan was 20th overall in the 100-meter backstroke event, which was just four slots shy of the semifinals.
