Eugene, Ore. - Former Fordham track star Melissa Salerno continued her march at the U.S Olympic Trials on Friday, after advancing to the semifinals of the 1,500 meter run on Thursday.

On Thursday, Salerno qualified for Friday's semifinal by placing 18th overall in 4:16.50. There were three heats with the top six in each heat, plus the next six best times advanced to the semifinals. Salerno placed eighth in the final heat, but her time was inside of those next best times to move her to Friday's action.

On Friday, Salerno bettered her time to 4:16.33, but it was not enough to advance to Saturday's final. In the two heats, the top five in each, plus the two next best times moved on to Saturday. The final qualifier for Saturday was New Balance's Brenda Martinez at 4:10.73.
