The Atlantic 10 Conference announced its 2012 All-Conference teams for softball with six Fordham Rams finding their names on the lists. Seniors Lindsey Kay Bright and Jen Mineau, junior Jamie LaBovick, sophomore Elise Fortier and freshman Paige Ortiz were all First Team All-Atlantic 10 honorees while Mineau was also named Academic All-Conference, Additionally, freshman Brianna Turgeon and Ortiz were selected to the All-Rookie team.
Mineau earns First Team honors for the third time in her career on the heels of a season where she tossed three no hitters, a perfect game, and posted her 100th win and 100th complete game. She has a 24-13 record to date and with a miniscule, 1.62 ERA and opponents are hitting just .181 against her. The Schaghticoke, New York, product is second in the nation in strikeouts (382) while she leads the Atlantic 10 in ERA and is second in wins, strike outs, innings pitched and opponent's batting average. She earned A-10 Pitcher of the Week honors three times in 2012.
Last Friday, Mineau threw a complete game in the longest contest in school history against Massachusetts, a 17-inning 2-1 loss to the Minutemen.
Over her career, Mineau has set every school pitching record (expect for saves), which includes over 40 shutouts, 1,300 strikeouts, a 1.41 ERA and ten no-hitters.
Academically, Mineau, a Visual Arts major, was named to her third straight Academic All-Conference team a week after taking home First Team Capital One Academic All-District accolades. Last year, she was named a Third Team Capital One Academic All-America® and was the Atlantic 10 Student-Athlete of the Year for softball for the second consecutive season.
Bright, a left fielder, is not only the team leader in hitting, batting .361 (48-133) with four double and five RBI, she is one of the top hitters in the conference. In league games, the Federal Way, Washington, native batted .436 (24-55) for the season. Bright, who leads the team with nine stolen bases, was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week once in 2012, largely on the heels of a week that saw her go 9-for-9 at the plate.
LaBovick, a first baseman, took home First Team membership after previously earning a place on the Second Team the past two years and taking home Rookie of the Year honors in 2010. So far this year, the Peoria, Arizona, native leads the Rams in runs scored (31) and is second on then squad in hits (53). She also has five home runs and 13 RBI on the season and recorded the game-winning RBI with a two-run home run in the upset of #3 Alabama on Monday on Bahoshy Field. In the field, LaBovick has a .993 fielding percentage and leads the Atlantic 10 in fielding double plays.
Fortier, a third baseman, has made a huge impact in her first year with the Rams. The Stony Brook transfer and Coventry, Rhode Island native, is tied for the team lead in doubles (13) and is third overall in RBI (31). She has also connected on six home runs and set a career-high with five RBI against George Washington earlier in the season.
In her first season at Fordham,
Ortiz has made a big enough impact to garner both All-Conference and All-Rookie honors. She earned First Team accolades at designated player after leading the Rams and ranking near the top of the conference in home runs (12 - second), RBI (38 - fourth) total bases (95 - third) and slugging percentage (.519 - fifth). The Katy, Texas, product hit over .300 in league games and was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on March 29th.
Ortiz is joined on the All-Rookie team by Turgeon, who made just one error while recording 64 putouts and 12 assists playing both center field and right field. Turgeon was second on the squad in home runs (9) and RBI (34) while also collecting four doubles and one triple. She hit a key home run late in the game to help seal the win over #3 Alabama on Monday on Bahoshy Field.
The Rams begin defense of their A-10 Tournament crown on Thursday, May 10, when they face the winner of the Saint Joseph's - Temple game on Wednesday in St. Louis at 4:30 PM.
