May 7, 2012

Bronx, N.Y. - USRowing Collegiate Poll (May 2, 2012)

The Fordham University women's lightweight 8 moved up a spot from the national previous poll, moving into a 13th place tie with Stetson University in the most recent USRowing Collegiate Poll.

The Fordham lightweight 8 is comprised of Megan Sullivan (8), Alexandra McDonald (7), Maureen Paparo (6), Sarah Tully (5), Megan Feerick (4), Maria Capuano (3), Natalie Perpepaj (2) and Jenn Amoroso (1) with Rachel Sortino at coxswain.

In the upcoming Dad Vails Championships, head coach Ted Bonanno has decided to take the top four rowers from the lightweight 8 and enter them as a lightweight 4. These four will be Sullivan, Capuano, McDonald and Amoroso. The other members of the lightweight 8 will also be rowing with other boats at Dad Vails.

"We are thrilled that the lightweight 8 has moved up to 13th in the latest poll," said Bonanno. "We have made a decision to take the top four members of the lightweight 8 and enter them as a lightweight 4 for the Dad Vails because we believe that this is a great opportunity for Fordham to reestablish itself as one of the top women's teams in lightweight rowing."

Last weekend, members of the lightweight 8 competed with the varsity 8 (McDonald and Sortino), the second varsity 8 (Sullivan, Tully, Capuano and Amoroso) and the varsity 4B (Feerick and Perpepaj) at the 2012 Atlantic 10 Championships where the Rams placed seventh. The varsity 8 and the second varsity 8 each placed second in the petite final while the varsity 4B placed sixth.

The Rams will compete in the 2012 Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta beginning on Friday, May 11th on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.
