Amy Simidian Earns Women's Tennis All-Atlantic 10 Honors

Fordham University women's tennis junior Amy Simidian (Carlstadt, N.J./Henry P. Becton Regional) was named First Team All-Atlantic 10 it was announced by the league office today. This marks the second straight season that a Fordham women's tennis player earned All-Conference honors as Mia Fiocca earned the honor last year.

Simidian, a transfer from Penn State where she played for two years, played at the number one singles position for the Rams all year, compiling a 22-8 record, leading the team in singles wins. She was also a leader in doubles wins for the Rams this year, going 17-8, the second most doubles wins on the squad, 11-6 at first doubles.

The Rams closed out the season with a 17-6 record, one of the best seasons in recent history, and a vast improvement from the 3-14 record of 2010-11.

In the fall, Simidian advanced to the round of 16 at the 2011 USTA/ITA Northeast Regional, hosted at Yale University in New Haven, Conn.

Simidian, the 17th overall seed, began the final day with a seeded match-up with #14 Katarina Gajic of Boston College. Gajic took the opening set, 6-3, but Simidian rallied back for the second straight match, winning the final two sets, 6-4, 6-2, to advance into the round of 16.

In the round of 16, Simidian took on Yale's Hanna Yu, with Yu taking home a straight set victory, 7-5, 6-0.

Simidian was also named the 2011-12 Women's Tennis team MVP at the 78th annual Block F Awards Dinner at the Villa Barone Manor on May 2nd.
