Chris Gaston and Branden Frazier Named 2011-12 Men's Basketball Co-MVPs

As the 2011-12 season begins to wind down, the Fordham University Athletic Department held its 78th annual Block F Awards Dinner at the Villa Barone Manor on May 2nd to honor Fordham University's student-athletes for their accomplishments during the academic year.

Among those honored were Chris Gaston (Union City, N.J./St. Anthony (New Hampton) and Branden Frazier (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) who were named the 2011-12 Men's Basketball co-MVPs.

A junior forward, Gaston led the Fordham squad in both scoring and rebounding for the third straight year, averaging 17.1 ppg and 9.9 rpg. He also recorded 46 blocks (second best in the team), 35 steals (third best on the squad), and 30 assists. Gaston led the Atlantic 10 in rebounding for the third consecutive season, and in offensive (4.0/game) and defensive rebounding (5.9/game). He also ranked fifth in the conference in scoring and seventh in blocked shots (1.6/game).

On the year, Gaston registered 16 doubles-doubles, the most for any Atlantic 10 player and the 18th best in the NCAA Division I. He was also 24th in the NCAA in rebounding, 80th in blocks and 72nd in scoring.

Branden Frazier


A sophomore guard, Frazier didn't suffer through a sophomore jinx as he improved on his freshman season, averaging 11.7 ppg and 2,4 rpg while leading the Rams with 118 assists and ranking fourth with 31 steals. He ranked fourth in the Atlantic 10 in assists/turnover ration (1.9) and sixth in assists/game (4.1). Frazier started all 29 games for the Rams in 2011-12, recording 16 double digit scoring games, including four 20-point contests.
