Fordham University senior pitcher Jen Mineau (Schaghticoke, N.Y./Hoosic Valley Central) was named 2012 Third Team Capital One Academic All-America® for softball as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) it was announced today. It is the second straight year that Mineau has garnered Third Team Capital One Academic All-America® honors.
Mineau becomes the second Fordham softball student-athlete to earn Academic All-America® honors in the past four years, joining Mary Beth Puccio who was named First Team Academic All-America® in 2009. She is also the third Fordham softball player to earn Academic All-America® honors, joining Puccio and Erin Brooks (2004).
A Visual Arts major with a with a 3.70 GPA, Mineau finished her career with another standout year in 2012, leading the Rams to their eighth straight thirty-win season, en route to becoming the most decorated pitcher in Fordham softball history.
Mineau finished the 2012 season with a 25-15 record, marking the third straight year she eclipsed 20 wins, with a 1.62 ERA, striking out 414 in 286.0 innings of work and held opponents to hitting just .180 on the year. She ranks second in the nation in total strikeouts and first in the Atlantic 10 in ERA while placing second in the conference in wins, strike outs and opponents' batting average. Mineau tossed three no-hitters this spring, including one in the first game on the newly renovated Bahoshy Field against St. John's, and threw a perfect game against Temple.
Following the regular season, Mineau was named to the All-Atlantic 10 First Team for the third consecutive season. Additionally, Mineau was chosen Academic All-Conference for the third time and earned Player of the Week accolades three times in 2012.
Mineau finished her Fordham career as the school's all-time leader in wins (101), strikeouts (1,390), ERA (1.42), complete games (105), starts (138).
The Rams closed out the year with a 32-24 overall record, and a 14-6 Atlantic 10 mark. The team finished second in the conference during a season that included the longest game in school history and a home win over #3 Alabama, the highest ranked team that the softball team has ever beaten.
