Women's Soccer Adds Ali Gungor to Recruiting Class for 2012

May 17, 2012

Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham women's soccer head coach Ness Selmani announced today, that forward Ali Gungor (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK) has joined next year's recruiting class for the Rams. Gungor joins midfielder Victoria Camaj, defender Joann Murino, and midfielder/defender Ivana Lahcanski as the incoming freshman class for 2012.

Gungor, a 5-6 forward, was a multi-sport athlete at Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School in Plainview, New York, competing in both soccer and track. An All-Conference performer in both sports, she was the soccer team's top scorer (11 goals and eight assists in 2011), while breaking the school records in the long jump, high jump, and triple jump events on the track & field team.

Gungor also played club soccer for the POB Pythons, where she was a three-year captain for the U16 and U17 teams. Over her last two seasons, she netted 32 goals and 11 assists in just 14 games.

Away from the pitch, Gungor is a member of the National Honor Society, the French Honor Society, and the honor roll. She also serves as a tutor at the Kumon Learning Center in Plainview.

Selmani on Gungor - "With her tremendous speed and nose for the goal, she will be a big asset to our offensive line in years to come."
