Softball to Host Binghamton in Mid-Week Doubleheader

April 3, 2012

Bronx, N.Y. - The new Bahoshy Field has been a welcoming place for the Fordham softball team so far in 2012 as the Rams are a perfect 3-0 in the friendly confines, with two of the games being no-hitters. The Rams look to remain unbeaten at home as they welcome the Binghamton Bearcats in for a mid-week doubleheader on Tuesday, April 3, beginning at 3:30.

The Rams enter the twinbill having taken a pair of Atlantic 10 games from Charlotte over the weekend. Familiar faces led the team as Jen Mineau threw a no-hitter, one of her two complete game wins, while Jamie LaBovick heated up at the plate with a total of four hits, including a home run. Offensively, the Rams are led by a senior and a couple of freshman. Lindsey Kay Bright enters the day leading the team in hitting (.384), on base percentage (.423) and stolen bases (five).

Newcomers Paige Ortiz and Michele Daubman are also having a positive effect in the Fordham lineup. Ortiz leads the team in home runs, RBI, total bases and slugging while Daubman is hitting .279 and has contributed with a pair of homers and 11 runs scored.

In the circle, the Rams preseason All-American Jen Mineau is currently 15-8 on the year and was named Pitcher of the Week for the second time on March 26. Last week, in addition to her no-hitter, she threw a complete game victory in the second game with the 49ers. Taylor Pirone and Daubman have also seen time on the rubber this year.

The Bearcats enter the series with a 1-10 road record this season. Jessica Phillips is the offensive juggernaut of the team, leading Binghamton in batting (.359), runs (19), home runs (six), total bases (49) and slugging (.766) and on-base percentage (.554). Mikala King enters the doubleheader hitting .300 and is second on the side in home runs, slugging and on-base percentage and leads the Bearcats in RBI (18).

In the circle, four different pitchers have seen work. Kristen Emerling and Demi Laney lead the staff with 13 appearances. Emerling is 3-3 with a 3.92 ERA and has four starts to her credit while Laney has one complete game and a 4-4 record with a team-high 50 strikeouts. Following the doubleheader, the Rams return to the road as they travel to Philadelphia for an Easter Week Atlantic 10 meetings with Saint Joseph's and Temple. The series with the Hawks begins on Thursday, April 5 at 1:00 PM.
