Bronx, N.Y. -
The Fordham softball team will put its flawless home record on the line as they host Iona for a midweek game on Tuesday, April 24 at 3:00 on Bahoshy Field.
The Rams enter the contest following a doubleheader sweep of St. Bonaventure over the weekend. On the year, the Rams are 29-18 overall, including a 9-0 mark at Bahoshy Field, and the team has won six of their last seven games.
Offensively, the Rams are led by a senior and a freshman. Lindsey Kay Bright enters the game leading the team in hitting (.387), on base percentage (.414) and stolen bases (seven). She is just two hits shy of becoming the fifth Fordham softball player to reach 200 career hits.
Newcomer Paige Ortiz is having a positive effect in the Fordham lineup. She leads the team in home runs, RBI, total bases and slugging and was named A-10 Rookie of the Week on March 26.
In the circle, the Rams preseason All-American Jen Mineau is currently 23-10 on the year and ranked second in the NCAA with 324 strikeouts on the year. She was named Pitcher of the Week for the third time on April 9 while last week she picked up a pair of wins against St. Bonaventure. Taylor Pirone and Michele Daubman have also seen time on the rubber this year.
The Gaels are 25-20 overall on the year, 7-3 in the MAAC, and 12-8 on the road in 2012. Most recently, Iona took a pair of games against Manhattan on Monday.
Offensively, the team leans heavily on Eileen McCann and Alyssa Maiese. McCann paces the Gaels in batting (.347), hits (43) and triples (one) and is second on the team in home runs. Maiese is hitting
.305 and leads Iona in homers (six), RBI (32) and doubles (12).
In the circle, Sarah Jackson and Maiese have identical 12-9 records. Jackson leads the staff in ERA (1.48), complete games (19), shutouts (six) and strikeouts (173); while Maiese is tops in innings pitched and boasts a 1.57 ERA. Carly Argyle has appeared in six games in the circle as well.
Following the game with Iona, the Fordham softball team returns to conference play with a pair of Atlantic 10 games at Dayton starting on April 27 at 3:00 PM.
