Rowing Places Second at Kerr Cup

The Fordham rowing squad traveled down to Philadelphia to compete in the Kerr Cup on the Schuylkill River where the Rams finished second in the team competition.

Drexel won the event with 84 points followed by Fordham with 45 and La Salle with 32. Penn State (28), Villanova (21), the College of New Jersey (8), Loyola (5), Bryn Mawr (4) and Philadelphia University (4) also competed.

The varsity 8 was the top finisher for Fordham, taking second in the finals but being moved to third after it was ruled that the Rams interfered with the La Salle boat. Drexel won the race in 7:28.7 with Fordham in second in 7:40.0 and La Salle third (7:51.8). Penn State, the College of New Jersey and Philadelphia University finished fourth through sixth, respectively.

In the second varsity 8, the Rams placed second in a time of 7:56.1, behind Drexel A (7:31.2) but in front of Drexel B (7:59.9) and La Salle (8:06.0).

The novice 8 took fourth, crossing the line in 9:16.6. Drexel won the race in 7:59.9 followed by Villanova (8:17.6), Penn State (8:37.8) and Fordham.

The other entry for Fordham, the varsity four, placed third in its heat in a time of 10:07.8 behind Bryn Mawr (8:58.8) and Penn State (9:37.0) but ahead of the College of New Jersey (10:56.4).

The Rams will next be in action on Saturday, May 5th, as they compete in the 2012 Atlantic 10 Championships on the Cooper River in Camden, New Jersey.
