The Fordham University crew was split this past weekend, with the varsity 8 traveling cross country to compete at the prestigious San Diego Crew Classic and three other boats rowing at the Sacred Heart Invitational.
In California on Saturday, the varsity 8 placed seventh in the Women's Collegiate Varsity B SeaWorld Cal Cup on Mission Bay in a time of 7:11.109. Duke won the race in 6:48.945, followed by San Diego (6:54.880), Gonzaga (6:57.475), Kansas State (6:57.835), Drexel (7:05.714), and San Diego State (7:06.019).
That same day on the Connecticut River in Shelton, Connecticut, the Rams entered three boats in the Sacred Heart Invitational: the novice 8, varsity 4 and junior varsity 8. The JV 8 was the top shell on the day, winning the second varsity grand final in 7:21.0, well ahead of runner-up Sacred Heart (7:56.2). Trailing Sacred Heart was Albany (8.36.8), Canisius (9.23.0) and Iona (10.37.0).
In the novice 8, the Rams placed fourth in 9:06.6, behind Iona (8:02.9), Sacred Heart (8:11.5) and Army (8:32.6).
The Fordham varsity 4 placed fifth in the grand final in 9:51.0. Drake won the race in 8:21.2 followed by Army (8:30.7), Iona (8:47.2), Skidmore (9:16.0) and the Rams.
The Fordham crew will return to action on Saturday, April14th, as they compete at the Knecht Cup on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J.
